Refuge Albert 1er

Starting from the Gîte les Ecuries de Charamillon
An interesting walk through varied terrain with superb views over Chamonix valley and the Tour glacier.
The route starts on an easy path through mountain pastures to age-old Lake Charamillon.

The climb continues around the very visible ridge on the right. Once at the top, there are two somewhat delicate passages to use with care – safety equipment has been installed. A long traverse takes you to the glacier moraine you climb up to the refuge.

The refuge is called after the king of the Belgians who inaugurated it in 1930. It is used by the many mountaineers who enjoy all sorts of climbs, especially on snow-covered peaks. The views as you climb up to the refuge are magnificent – and the marmots are never far away.
